Learn to identify and help someone who is experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or is in a mental health crisis situation

Participants will learn how to…
- Recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health or substance-use crisis
- Have conversations that encourage a person to:
- Talk about their mental well-being
- Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being
- Reach out to these supports
- Assist in a mental health or substance-use crisis situation
- Check in with one’s own mental well-being and take action as needed
Program options
This evidence-based program is a program of Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC)
- Mental Health First Aid Certification: 12-hour course is offered virtually or in-person. The focus is on adult mental health well-being.
- Mental Health First Aid Essentials: 6-hour course is offered virtually or in person. The focus is on adult mental health well-being.
- Mental Health First Aid for Adults who Interact with Youth: a 14-hour training with a focus on youth between the ages of 12-24 with mental health problems. Includes all the content in the MHFA Basic along with non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and eating disorders.
- Mental Health First Aid - Supporting Youth Virtual: a 10-hour course. Offered through a blended format (part online, part in-person). The focus is on youth mental health well-being.

- Companies that have had an incident where an employee had a mental health concern and they did not know how to deal with it.
- Companies that would like to educate their managers (or all employees) before an incident occurs.
- Companies who want to increase their managers’ knowledge about mental health to better serve their employees/ co-workers. It may also be offered to all employees if budget is available
- Employees who want to develop strategies and tools to assist individuals struggling with mental health concerns.
