You don’t have to be an expert to help
One of the biggest myths about mental health support is that you need to be an expert to help.
I hear this all the time: “I’m not a therapist; what if I say the wrong thing?”
The truth is, you don’t need to have all the answers to make a meaningful difference.
What matters most is:
👀 Noticing when someone is struggling.
👂 Listening without judgment.
🤝 Encouraging them to reach out for professional help if needed.
👫 Staying connected so they know they aren’t alone.
These simple, human actions create a foundation of trust and support. And often, they’re what people remember most: that someone cared enough to check in, listen, and walk beside them.
💡 If you’d like to build confidence in these skills, I recommend exploring Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training.
